Local business owners have a hard enough time in the best of times. Their
businesses didn't "magically appear" one day: They have built them with endless
effort and care, every day – risking everything they have to build something
worthwhile and enduring for themselves, their families, and their community.
So when we see Predatory web services who gouge restaurants for 30% of menu
costs to deliver a meal – and keep the customer's information to themselves so
the business can never break free from their clutches, it makes us mad.
And when we see 'deal sites' that squeeze businesses into providing half-price
services – and on top of that take 30% of that half-revenue for their own pocket,
it makes us madder still – because once the business has taken their money, they
can't make a profit at half price, and so they have to come back to that predatory
lender for another check next month, and another the month after.
Those online services look like 'great deals' – but in Reality they are Predators
who prey on local businesses and diminish our communities.
